Finding Your Kitchen Sink

December 20, 2011

Have you lost your kitchen sink in a kitchen that looks like this?:

OK, well that’s not really the kind of “Finding Your Kitchen Sink” I’m talking about.  (But we will talk about that another time…)

So what do I mean?

Well, if you’ve ever read anything from “The Fly Lady” her very first instructions for getting your home under control are “Shine your sink”.  And then to always keep it that way.

The idea behind this is that if your “Kitchen Sink” is shined then you have a sense of accomplishment that something is nice and clean and you can look to it when the rest of the house may not be so neat and shiny.

But I have found that the actual kitchen sink may not really be the most important thing for everyone.  For you, it might be better if the Bathroom counter is clean, or the coffee table is straight and free from dust.  It could be your dresser or the entry way of your home.

You need to find your “Kitchen Sink” and start there.  Clean that area to the best of your ability and then keep it that way!

My “Kitchen Sink” happens to actually be the real deal, but includes the counters too.  If the dishes are cleared from the sink and the counters are clear and wiped down, I feel like I have some sense of control over the chaos of the house.

So what is your “Kitchen Sink”?  If you know, please share! If you don’t, take some time to think about what that one area of your house is, that when it is clean makes you feel like all is right with the world?
