On Alabama Snow…

February 10, 2011
It’s another snow day in Alabama….well more like a “It-snowed-last-night-but-it’s-gone-now Day”.  We’ve had a few “Winter Storm Watches” this Winter season (including that super fun White Christmas we got!) and it got me thinking about Alabama Snow.
For those of you who don’t live in the South, and especially for those of you who live in places where snow is a regular occurrence and doesn’t stop the world dead in it’s tracks, here are a few things you should know about Alabama Snow:
  • When we get snow here it is like a natural disaster.  Everything shuts down, businesses close, school lets out and everyone heads home to “survive” the event.
  • Since we don’t typically get a lot of snow, we’re not really prepared for Snow Activities when the opportunity presents itself.  So instead of sliding down hills on sleds, you will see children taking a ride on laundry baskets, large rubbermaid container lids, and boogie boards that still have sand on them from last years beach trip.
  • Someone down here should probably also be awarded the world records for smallest snowman, since it is essential to build a snowman during ANY winter weather event, and often there is just not enough for a full grown man.  So we build the baby versions.
  • And lastly, whenever a weatherman predicts snow (or even “a few flurries”) in Alabama within five minutes the grocery stores are out of two things: bread and milk.  Why? I have no idea.  I have a list of about fifty things I would rather eat during a snow storm than Milk Sandwiches.
But don’t worry we’re safe now.  The snow has melted we can move on with our lives…at least until the next disaster….I mean snow storm.
Hope your Winter is Wonderful:-)

I must say I might just bee a teensy bit jealous haha! We got a little "Snow" in Auburn last night…and it was more like a slushie from Sonic falling from the sky…for five minutes…then back to rain! My mom got some snow in Bham though!

Its not an Alabama snowmen unless the snow is dirty with sticks n pine-needles, and there is not any more snow left on the ground around the snowman.
